Statement by Research!America President and CEO Mary Woolley on the Retirement of Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO)
Senator Roy Blunt is an extraordinary champion for research and public health, working tenaciously to increase federal investment in the crucial research the National Institutes of Health (NIH) conducts and supports. Honored with Research!America’s Edwin C. Whitehead Award for Medical Research Advocacy in 2016, Senator Blunt’s bipartisan leadership and dedicated efforts have elevated the importance of medical progress and led to robust budget growth for the NIH. He shows tremendous commitment to increasing investments in research focused on preventing and eradicating diseases that take a tremendous toll on individuals, families, and our economy. That commitment has created new opportunities to keep our nation on the cutting edge of medical innovation, create jobs, and improve health outcomes. His dedicated efforts to ensure that the NIH can continue to do its part to accelerate desperately needed medical progress will leave a lasting imprint on us all.
