Statement by Research!America President and CEO Mary Woolley on New Restrictions on Fetal Tissue Research
Research!America opposes the ban on acquiring new fetal tissue for the purposes of current or future intramural research and the additional layer of review that is being put in place for extramural research.
These new restrictions and requirements further erode the unique potential fetal tissue research holds for addressing such critical objectives as fighting blindness, ending Parkinson’s Disease, and advancing maternal and child health.
Patients – and we are all patients – simply cannot afford this slowing of medical and public health progress.
