Research!America Statement on Reported Staff Cuts at Federal Research Agencies
Arlington, VA – In response to reported firings Friday at federal research and public health agencies, Research!America issued the following statement from President and CEO Mary Woolley:
“A recent survey commissioned by Research!America revealed that fully 9 in 10 Americans across the political spectrum want President Trump and Congress to assign a higher priority to faster medical progress,” Woolley said. “We are deeply concerned that these firings, as well as other recent actions, will prevent the administration and Congress from realizing that goal.
“We urge the administration to reconsider these actions and refrain from further sweeping leadership and staff cuts. Our nation cannot afford to hollow out our research and public health assets. Patients are waiting; lives are at stake.”
