Research!America Issues Statement in Response to Destructive Cuts to NIH-Funded Research
Arlington, VA – Research!America, a nonprofit medical and health research alliance, issued this statement today from President and CEO Mary Woolley:
“We urge the Administration to suspend its decision to abruptly change National Institutes of Health indirect cost reimbursement. This is not about capping costs; it’s about kneecapping our nation. The consequences of a sudden re-write of rules affecting research institutions and small businesses in every part of the United States are foreseeable: Medical progress will slow, choking off both major breakthroughs and almost-there answers for Americans suffering from deadly and debilitating diseases. Everyday people, not just researchers but small business owners, manufacturing workers, and others, will lose their livelihoods. Local economies will shrink. China and other global competitors will taste victory.”
