The EDWIN C. WHITEHEAD AWARD FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH ADVOCACY recognizes exemplary leaders, particularly those in public office, who have shown a long-standing commitment to advancing health research as a national priority and who galvanize others in support of science policy and funding.
The Honorable Todd Young has represented the state of Indiana, first as a congressman and then as a senator, since 2011. The Senator is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the military for a decade before entering politics. Senator Young currently serves on the Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee, the Finance Committee, the Committee on Foreign Relations, and the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. As a steadfast champion for health-focused science and research, Senator Young has cosponsored numerous pieces of legislation that promote biomedical and public health research ranging from tackling the opioid crisis, to providing support for Alzheimer’s patients, to supporting pediatric medical research.
