Statement of Research!America on Bipartisan FY22 Appropriations Framework
Research!America welcomes the news that House and Senate appropriators have reached agreement on a bicameral, bipartisan framework for Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations legislation. We are pleased appropriations leaders have finalized decisions that will allow individual subcommittees to put together their FY22 budgets, and we thank them for doing the hard work needed to resolve significant differences.
While this agreement is an important beginning, it’s essential that both the House and Senate move quickly to finalize and pass the full FY22 Omnibus package. The five-month delay in enacting the FY22 budget means critically important priorities have been put on hold, including pandemic preparedness; boosted funding for NIH, CDC, FDA, NSF, and AHRQ; and capitalizing on the bold idea of establishing ARPA-H, a high risk, high reward medical innovation incubator modeled after DARPA.
The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the need to prioritize these and other pivotal public health priorities. We urge Congress to move quickly to complete action on the appropriations package.
