Research!America Congratulates Recipients of 2024-2025 Civic Engagement Microgrants

Arlington, VA – Research!America is proud to congratulate the recipients of its 2024-2025 Civic Engagement Microgrant Program. Now in its seventh year, the program received a record number of applicants, demonstrating an increasing commitment by early-career scientists to connect to their local communities. The Civic Engagement Microgrant program provides groups of early-career scientists with funding of up to $4,000 each to support innovative science outreach initiatives.
“Engaging with the community is a crucial part of scientists’ roles in society,” said Research!America President and CEO Mary Woolley. “The Civic Engagement Microgrant Program equips early-career scientists with the skills and opportunities to engage meaningfully with their communities,” Woolley said. “We are excited to see the innovative projects brought forth by this year’s micrograntees.”
This year’s 24 Microgrant groups, led by master’s, PhD, postdoc, and professional students, were selected from a pool of 108 applicants. Through a range of creative activities, they are engaging with community leaders and community members, high school and middle school students, parents, and STEM educators.
The 2024-2025 Microgrant awardees are spread throughout the country, expanding opportunities for scientists to engage with the public, creating opportunities for dialogue and helping to strengthen trust in science. Projects include a hands-on lab experience for local educators to enhance their teaching of science; an after-school science initiative for middle school girls in a rural area; and a community-run film festival focusing on science.
