Director of Communications
Research!America, a nonprofit membership alliance that advocates for science, discovery, and innovation to achieve better health for all, is seeking a Director of Communications. The director will directly oversee social media platforms and assist our media relations and other external communications functions.
Responsibilities include:
- Create daily content for Research!America’s social media channels, including X (Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and other channels as they arise. Ideal candidate should have experience in creating engaging content with graphics and other art elements.
- Manage media monitoring and pull together regular reports on media mentions of Research!America and stakeholders.
- Co-write and edit the Weekly Letter which is distributed every Thursday.
- Distribute press releases to a cultivated media list and distribute Weekly Letter to wider audience via Charity Engine.
- Develop talking points for stakeholders when needed.
- Develop presentations for leadership and provide other corporate communications support.
- As a member of the Communications Team, provide administrative support for routine office operations as well as special projects.
- Supervision of communications intern.
- Other duties as needed.
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 8 years of experience with proficiency working with a Microsoft Office and office technologies, social media platforms and media monitoring platforms. An ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is a strong writer and possess strategic communications skills. Prior experience with social media, social media graphic development, and media relations is a must; experience with science and medical topics is a plus.
Research!America offers a competitive salary (salary range: $95,000 – $112,000, based on experience) and benefits that include medical, dental and vision coverage; life insurance; long- and short-term disability insurance; a 403(b) retirement plan; tuition reimbursement; and parking or Metro benefits. This position offers a hybrid work schedule with 2 days a week in in the office, with other days working remotely. The Research!America office is located just steps from the Metro and VRE in Arlington, VA.
