Research!America is thankful to members of both parties who voted to pass this profoundly important legislation. We are especially appreciative of the leadership of both parties for working together to see this through.
The Bipartisan Budget Act sets the stage for increased funding for the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, the National Science Foundation, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and our nation’s other strategically essential science and public health agencies. Whether the objective is achieving rapid-pace, medical progress, defeating the opioid epidemic, or seeding enduring global economic competitiveness, these agencies are pivotal. They are much needed to meet the expectations and aspirations of the American people. We urge the President to sign this bill into law right away so Congress can complete the fiscal year 2020 appropriations process — inclusive of increased science and public health agency funding — on a timely basis.
