Are you a researcher or clinician working to address pandemic threats? Research!America is recognizing trailblazers in pandemic preparedness research and development with the opportunity to receive a $200,000 prize to accelerate their work. Applications for the 2023 prize are closed.

Competitive applications feature promising ideas that advance progress against COVID-19 or that can be applied to future pandemic threats.

Nominations are welcome from individuals affiliated with a U.S.-based organization such as an academic research institution, academic medical center, independent research organization, non-profit organization, or for-profit company with sales revenues less than $10 million for each of the last two years (including U.S.-global partnerships). Nominations may originate from the following fields or combination of fields: biology, chemistry, life sciences, medicine, or technology such as AI or data science. The prize will be issued to the awardee’s organization. Prize funds must be dedicated to the award recipient’s continued work toward R&D to address pandemic threats.

* Board members and employees of Research!America, Pfizer and its subsidiaries, and immediate family members of any such persons, are not eligible for the prize. Individuals employed by the Federal Government are not eligible.

Application Criteria

Applications closed at midnight ET on June 15, 2023.

Competitive applicants must demonstrate rigorous, innovative work on the cutting edge of research and development, with data to support their efforts. While only one applicant should be named on each application, evidence of team engagement is encouraged. The prize funds must be dedicated to the award recipient's continued work towards research for pandemic threats.

Applications must include complete contact information, a research summary, accompanying documentation, two letters of recommendation, and a letter of acknowledgement from the applicant’s organization. The prize will be issued to the applicant's organization, which will receive $30,000 for indirect costs associated with the support of the work of the prize-winner.
